Coming to almost every customer.
If your water meter serial number starts with "24" then you most likely have a meter with cellular technology and you can view your usage online. There are some meters that start with "23" that have cellular technology as well. The cellular unit reports in every 6 hours with a reading. If the unit fails to report in 6 hours then the next time it reports it should backfill the data.

Watts Bar Utility District (WBUD) is changing water meters out with new cellular technology over the next few years. The process started this year (2023) around May. All new water taps and any water meter changes are going to this new technology. It is possible that about 5 to 10 percent of the meters will have to stay drive-by until cell coverage gets better in those areas.
Currently there are about 3,500 cellular units deployed over the service area and WBUD is getting good results with communication of devices. WBUD plans to change out approximately 1,500 meters over the next 6 to 9 months. Once these units are changed out, WBUD plans to do the remaining 3,000 meters in 2027. The goal is to have all or most all water meters on cellular technology by the end of 2027 or earlier 2028.
The cellular water meters will communicate every 6 hours, it is possible that it will miss reads as cell towers could be offline for any number of reasons.
